Last Sunday I had the honor of shooting the second competition hosted by the Barista Throwdown League at Goodbrews Coffee in Lubbock. Having spent a few months working in a local coffee shop and a few years getting to know and love coffee, I definitely enjoyed myself on this one. I've actually wanted to shoot some photos and footage of this subject for a while so it was great to finally get this opportunity.
The Barista Throwdown League is a monthly barista competition started by Patrick Burns of Palace Coffee Co in Canyon, TX that gives baristas (Baristi? Baristacles? Not sure what the plural is there) from local coffee shops around the area a chance to show off their latte art skills and win prizes and the respect of their peers in the process. More than just a competition, it's an awesome community and a chance for baristas and coffee enthusiasts (such as myself) from around the area to get together and enjoy something they all love. It was a blast getting to be a part of such a fun event and I'm thrilled that Patrick has put so much work into making it happen.
For this event, I actually mostly shot video which will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, but I was able to snap a few photos as well. To view the full gallery of photos I shot for the event, click here. Fortunately, I had the chance to work with Betsy Lackey, and awesome wedding and portrait photographer in Lubbock who shot some incredible photos for the event. As soon as those photos are ready, I'll post a link to them as well, but until then, here are a few of mine. Enjoy!
